Dear St. Paul Hermitage Families and Friends,
We are thankful for this beautiful day. It is amazing what the sun can do for our spirits. It also gives the residents an opportunity to get outside if they wish.
We currently have had no residents ill with COVID 19 and no residents who are symptomatic at this time. Our current COVID 19 status is that we have had no COVID 19 positive residents. We have had eight COVID positive employees. Four of our staff who are ill are direct care staff on the Health Care Center. Four of the eight staff have recovered and have returned to work. We have had no COVID 19 related hospitalizations or deaths for both employees and residents.
Each day I try to reflect on the blessings we have received. Even in this time of pandemic, we cannot lose sight of the many ways that God blesses our lives. Along the way, I want to share those blessings with you. Today I would like to share the blessing of a partnership that we have. It has proven to be a great gift to us. In November of 2019, we entered into an Intergovernmental Transfer (IGT) program with Hancock Regional Hospital. Since we are the only not-for-profit stand-alone long-term care facility in Indiana, we needed to find a way to secure additional resources for St. Paul Hermitage. These resources include programs such as in-services for our healthcare staff, CPR recertifications along with other recertifications needed in healthcare. We will also receive financial reimbursement each quarter that will allow us to pay for capital projects that will benefit the residents and staff. The first such project we did was the new call bell system in Health Care.
During this time of the pandemic, we have been extremely grateful for this partnership with Hancock Regional Hospital. They were able to help secure some Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) that we needed greatly. They also helped secure the person who trained some of our staff to be Personal Care Attendants. Our contact through Hancock Regional Hospital is always on hand to help if we have a question or need. They are a great blessing to us.
We also belong to the Indiana Health Care Association. This, too, has been a great blessing to us as we navigate our way through this time of pandemic. Each day I receive an email from IHCA giving us information from ISDH, CMS and the CDC. As you can imagine, this information is always changing as more is learned about COVID 19. We are very thankful for the way they help us navigate the complexity of this time.
I thank you for all of your support and the many ways that you are supporting our staff. It means so much to all of us. We are all part of the same community and we are thankful for your love. If you have any questions, please let me know. You can reach me by e-mail at or 317-213-8430.
