Dear St. Paul Hermitage Families and Friends,

Today is another beautiful day. The sun always adds brightness to the day.  I hope your day is going well.

As I said in my update last night, I am in dialogue with Dr. Hurley and ISDH about what steps need to be taken in regard to precautions and additional testing.  Dr. Hurley feels that each resident needs to be tested since the caregivers that tested positive were from both hallways.  They will also test two employees.   We contacted ISDH to set up testing.  They got back to us late this afternoon and want to come tomorrow.  We will be calling each Health Care Representative in the morning prior to the testing.  I would have called you this evening but I am working the floor in healthcare.

We currently have had no residents ill with COVID 19 and no residents who are symptomatic at this time.   Our current COVID 19 status is that we have had no COVID 19 positive residents.  We have had eight COVID positive employees.  Four of our staff who are ill are direct care staff on the Health Care Center.  Three of the eight staff have recovered and have returned to work.  We have had no COVID 19 related hospitalizations or deaths for both employees and residents. We continue to monitor residents for symptoms of COVID 19 each shift.  Staff are screened at the beginning of their shift.  The employees who have tested positive for COVID 19 are quarantined at home. We have notified public health officials as required and are following procedures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.  We are working closely with our Medical Director, Dr. Daniel Hurley.  We are taking every step as recommended by the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services to contain any spread. We want to make residents, their families, and our dedicated staff aware of this situation and reassure everyone that we continue to work hard to limit the spread of the virus in our community. Let us continue to pray for the health of our community and the world.

Currently, we are short staffed in our housekeeping department.  To help us during this time, some of the sisters from the monastery will be cleaning apartments in residential.  They will clean each Wednesday starting this week.  They will begin at 8:45 am. The sisters will go through the same screening process that the staff goes through.  We have notified the residential resident of this change.   I know that this will be a change from their usual time.  If you have a loved one in residential, please help them understand that this change is necessary so that we can get all the apartments cleaned each week.

Thank you all for your support.  If you have any questions, please let me know. You can reach me by e-mail at or 317-213-8430.
